Character Creation Challenge 2024 - 5: Walte Drottens [Mutant: Hindenburg]

 Second Mutant: Year Zero Character

That first character opened the floodgates, let's make an attempt at making a party for the game...


0: The Fundamentals

I had a brief look over the classes and occupations when I made Nil Poss. The Doc will heal, know things and do a bit of melee. Someone a bit more social, someone a bit more brawny and someone a bit more wildernessy would be ideal to add. The brawny guy I have the clearest idea of what to do with, so I will start with that one.


1: Class

Robot.

This class was a lot more complex in Maskinarium, and they have streamlined it a lot. Which is good, because they were sorta annoying to play as written in the surface campaign with all the classes available. They are still distinct, so I think they found a good solution for them here.


2: Occupation

Knegare (not sure what this is in English, physical labour is the name of the game)

This occupation is on the more durable side compared to the other "martial" occupations. It is also listed as a common robot occupation so feels more in line than being a local tough guy.


3: Name

Walte Drottens (taken from the suggestion list)


4: Age

Robots do not age, so do not have one. Must be a relief!


5: Abilities

Robots gets 14 points and have different rules for maximum stats and can trade in stats for more special abilities. I am not overly interested in more modules after looking them up, and would rather have the ability points.

This is a bit more min maxy than I am used to doing in this game engine. But being a clunky and cold robot worker that struggles with the outside world just feels right.


6: Skills

Robots gets 10 points to put in skills.

  • Uthärda: 3
  • Hoppa & klättra: 0
  • Skjuta: 0
  • Smyga: 0
  • Begripa: 1
  • Mecka: 1
  • Speja: 1
  • Genomskåda: 0

  • Vårda:0

 So I put some at least in all the skills tied to my good attributes. Slita & Släpa and Uthärda are the two skills that have appeared the least when I have played the game, so I am not sure those are "wasted points" so to speak. But still very much in the character fantasy I am having about that worker robot.


7: Talents

  • Stryktålig.

This makes the character very beefy. The two other talents are nifty too, but this one takes the cake.


8: Special Power(s)

Robots only gets one special power baseline, and while several of these are good, they didn't feel good enough to change in abilitity points for them. So one it is.

  • Vibrosåg

Can both be useful for getting through places and when a big damage dump is needed.


9: Close Companion

Made in isolation, so not picked one. If I manage to make the full party, I will go back and edit this.


10: Gear and Credits

Physical labour is not paid well. Just a d6 for credits, so choosing between the weapon and the skill boost item is rough. Since the skill boost item is not listed as something readily available for sale, I pick that.

Another broke character. Getting a random club or so shouldn't be too expensive (or hard to find after a fight). And with 9 dice rolled for unarmed at the start shouldn't be too bad to go in unarmed - and can use the saw if it gets hairy. Or simply don't fight...


11: Looks and Haven

For some reason I am thinking of the older BSG Cylon build, or maybe Borg, as the look of the robot. Very clunky movement and people get a bit put off seeing it.

For Haven, I am thinking a Bender style apartment. Prolly has a living room and stuff, but never goes past the closet in the entrance. Should prolly wash away the dust in the actual apartment at some point...

In Play

How I would play this would be very literal about everything, always come up with how bad the odds are and other uncomfortable truths, be confrontational and a bit rude and almost threatening even when having a normal chat with someone. And always try to do the heavy lifting, as that is the core of the character's being.

And have very efficient movement in combat, a mix of Arnold Terminator and Jason Bourne. And gory descriptions. Very gory descriptions.

Maxing Slåss, Mecka and Uthärda seems a natural way to spend early XP.


Opinions

I like this character a lot, and it worked out better than my usual heal-fight guy in the doctor. Might be a bit one dimensional for long term play, however.
