Character Creation Challenge 2024 - 3: Alexander Draper [Mothership RPG]
First Mothership RPG character
I have voiced interest in playing in a Mothership RPG oneshot when the chance arises. So I picked up the pdf to get an idea of how the game actually works. So the natural thing to do would be to also roll up a character for it to see what comes out on the other side. It has a nifty character sheet I should print if I do a second one or more, but for now just gonna do it in order like the previous 2 CCC characters in 2024 for comparison purposes.
1. Roll Stats
The game wants me to roll 6d10 for the 4 base stats:
- Strength: 37
- Speed: 37
- Intellect: 28
- Combat: 40
Well then. 30 is average, so there goes my luck when I roll up my actual character :)
2. Pick a Class and note their starting Saves
Before rolling, I wanted to be a Scientist. But having Combat as highest stat and good Strength and Speed SCREAMS Marine. So that's what I want.
- Sanity: 25
- Fear: 30
- Body: 35
- Armor: 40
Picking Marine also seems to give me +5 to combat, and a further +5 if there's another Marine nearby.
3. Mark your starting skills and spend skill points
Marine only gets one starting skill and 3 skill points so this will not be a long list...
- Military Training
- Firearms
- Athletics
4. Take Note of how your character deals with Stress and Panic
- Whenever I panic, friendlies nearby must make a Fear Save.
5. Pick a starting loadout and roll a random trinket and patch
- Starting Loadout: Extermination
- Trinket: Dessicated Husk Doll
- Patch: Front Towards Enemy (Claymore Mine)
- Starting Credits: 32
Not a lot of credits to do anything with, but thinking about Dead Space and Resident Evil, I shelled out 10 credits for a flashlight (shoulder mounted on the suit I assume).

Very short and sweet character sheet for the task at hand, which seems to be a spooky science fiction game all about survival, and light on character development. Would not play as only game, but seems very nice for oneshots.
Opinion
This character generation took what, 10 minutes or so? And that is with writing and speedreading the rulebook earlier today. As usual with sci fi games, the ship building bit would be much more complex and time consuming at face value, but eh. I got a good impression of the game from this, hope to see how it plays out in reality some time this year.
